There should always be more Jessica Chastain on tumblr.

Her personal life remains essentially mysterious; one rumor she heard said that she was sisters with her Help co-star Bryce Dallas Howard’s sister, the illegitimate daughter of director Ron Howard. She laughs at that one, but doesn’t seem to want the sort of attention that would expose her actual family to the world.

Not only am I glad that The Hollywood Reporter finally put a rest to that ridiculous rumor, I’m ecstatic to see my personal Lord and Savior Jessica Chastain receiving the attention she deserves.

Choking On My Own Laughter

  • Joe: hahaha
  • Joe: i saw one i liked the other day that was something along the lines of:
  • Joe: "you is kind. you is special. you is 4/5 stars from 271 reviews"
  • Joe: quote from the upcoming film The Yelp

CROWE: I like that we get to pepper our conversation with our liner notes. So when I say The Help, what do you think of?

STONE: Bourbon on the front porch of Tate Taylor’s rental house in Greenwood, Mississippi, with Viola [Davis], Octavia [Spencer], and all the girls, and Tate and Chris Lowell … Tate’s mom cooking blueberry-and-peach pie and beans … It was like living in Mississippi for a summer. I go to the off-camera stuff, but it was really special … There was so much bourbon.

In case you forgot that Emma Stone is perfect, Interview provided more proof on the subject.

Tate Taylor picked out his suit for our wedding.

Ughhh, been saying this forever.

corycorybobory:

yeah I have a new crush

I’ve been in love with Tate for months, so hands off.  He was fraternity brothers with a good friend of mine at Ole Miss.
Swoon.

The pain in Professor Harris-Perry’s eyes as he continually interrupts her with derogatory, cutting remarks is palpable and difficult to watch.  His constant efforts to marginalize her work and her speech as a guest on his show is reprehensible.

In other news, I cannot wait to read this book.

Someone should make this a cross-stitch pattern so the flyover States can poop themselves collectively.

How is she so perfect?

Still crushing on Tate Taylor, y’all…

Whatever you think of The Help, it’s been a great thing for the formerly throwaway screen stereotype of the black maid, inviting us to see these supporting characters as leads, to follow them back to their own homes, and to begin a larger conversation about how they were mistreated during the Civil Rights era. It’s clear from the runaway success of the movie that people are responding to its sympathy for once-derided domestics, but will its cinematic halo have any effect on Latina maids, who continue to serve as the butt of jokes on TV and in movies?

Holy shit, Vulture, thanks for being amazing and actually pushing the support for The Help to change things in our country.  It won’t, but I love you desperately for the attempt.

To me, the film that has come out of the last few weeks looking most like a contender is one that nobody in the Oscarverse is talking about. If I told you that a movie made by an Academy Award-winning director starring eight previous acting nominees (four of them winners) opened in first place at the box office and received extremely positive reviews, you’d be thinking it’s in the mix, right? So why aren’t more people — okay, why isn’t anyone — high on the awards chances of Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion?

Holy shit, y’all, I love it when we get to start arguing about Oscar races and chances.  Grantland has an incredible piece on why Contagion shouldn’t be forgotten in the prognostication that overtakes Hollywood around this time each year.  For the record, I also love Mark Harris’s reading of the actresses from The Help and their ultimate chances regarding Oscar recognition come next year.
