Never wanna hide the truth from you
Just hang my head what I put you through
I wasn’t good enough
When what’s done is done love
When it’s all said and done
They ordered champagne and still a little thirsty
Rock Forever 21 but just turned thirty
Anything to make you smile
You are the ever-living ghost of what once was
I never want to hear you say
That you’d be better off
Or you liked it that way
Stories and cigarettes ruined lives of lesser girls
More than a decade has passed and this sentence is one of the best lyrics of all time.
I got no love to give
And no message at all
You won’t learn anything
From this song
And if you’re still bleeding, you’re the lucky ones
‘Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone
A lot of you might hear this song and think about a bad break up. I hear this song and think about my rapist.
I don’t need a better thing,
I’d settle for less,
It’s another thing for me,
I just have to wander through this world
Alone.
musicforthemorningafter came out in the fall of my senior year of high school and I’ve been listening to it pretty steadily ever since. When I had my Jeep in Nashville (2010 or so), I was bummed to find out it couldn’t play burned CDs. My solution was to keep this album in my car at all times. Since I’m not a fan of the radio and quickly grew tired of switching between stations in search of the right song, I would just play Pete. This album is one of those rareties for me where I don’t need to skip a single song. It’s perfect the way it is.
I feel the air upon my face
Forget the mess I’m in
Hold me again, don’t count mistakes
I lost track of them
Back in early March I decided to start working on a dual playlist for the impending summer season. At the time, I was watching season two of The OC and pondering my dream career as a music supervisor. Thus, these are all songs I would use in scoring the show had it stayed on the air past season four.
California Sunrise is meant for the quiet moments of laying next to the pool or taking a nap in the afternoon. These are the mellow scenes on The OC - when Sandy and Kirsten are trying to keep it together at the end of the episode, or Seth is moping around the house as he waits for Ryan to return. Songs like this capture the romance and emotion; they are the ones that stay with you and attach themselves to your psyche.
West Coast, on the other hand, is the party mix. These gems play as we get sweeping helicopter shots of Orange County, Newport Beach, or even the boys’ trips to Providence or Berkeley. Maybe there’s a bonfire party on the beach or Luke returns triumphantly from Portland to host a huge kegger. We could even be lucky enough to see the gang head out for a night at the Bait Shop and see The Cold War Kids perform. Regardless, you’ll be rocking out to this playlist all summer.

Programming note: These are both listed as alpha by artist - rearrange as you wish, put them on shuffle, or just enjoy them in order.
You can’t stop the lights from turning on
I’m a brute, shooting from the hip
Straight into your heart
But you stood by my side night after night
Night after night
You loved me back to life
Her off beat dance makes me fantasize
You can call it a burrito ‘cause it’s a wrap.
I dunno about you, but I’m fixin’ to do the Khaki Dance this weekend.
I want to, I want to be someone else or I’ll explode
With The Great Gatsby coming out tomorrow, let’s celebrate those famous four chords from William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet.
